11+ & KS2 SAT PREPARATION
A personalised first session to understand your child’s learning needs.
P H I L O S O P H Y
Learning is most effective when students feel both challenged and supported.
My lessons are designed to develop confidence, clarity of thought, and independent problem-solving rather than reliance on memorisation alone. Whether working on English or Maths, the aim is not simply to improve performance in the next assessment, but to build skills that endure beyond the classroom.
Lessons at Austen & Arithmetic are not merely topic-based instruction. I consciously shape each session around identifying gaps in understanding, addressing misconceptions, and building clarity step-by-step.
Each student learns differently. Hence, lessons are tailored to individual strengths, areas for development, and long-term academic goals.

Austen & Arithmetic is an independent one-to-one tutoring service, run by an experienced educator based in India and dedicated to providing personalised online tuition to students across the UK. All lessons are delivered directly by the same tutor, ensuring consistency, continuity, and personalised support throughout your child’s learning journey—with no assistants or tutor changes.
Since 2011, I have worked with students across a range of ages and academic levels, supporting learning in both English and Mathematics through structured one-to-one tuition.
Since 2022, I have worked extensively with students following the UK curriculum, including KS2 SATs preparation and KS3 academic support. I have supported students across the UK and US, with many continuing with me across multiple year groups. This continuity allows lessons to evolve naturally as each student’s needs, abilities, and academic goals develop.
My experience in teaching, curriculum development, and international online tuition has enabled me to develop an approach that is structured yet flexible, with a focus on building confidence, deepening understanding, and supporting long-term academic progress.
To maintain a high standard of personalised teaching, I deliberately limit my active student roster. This ensures that every student receives my full attention and works directly with a dedicated, well-prepared educator in every lesson.

A P P R O A C H
I believe effective tuition begins with understanding how a student thinks, not simply what they know.
Four Steps
1. Identify Gaps
Learning difficulties are often linked to underlying misconceptions rather than isolated mistakes.
2. Build Understanding
Concepts are explained through structured discussion, visual examples, and guided practice.
3. Strengthen Confidence
Students are encouraged to ask questions, reason, and develop independence in learning.
4. Track Progress
Lessons build on previous learning progress to create consistent academic growth over time.
Each session is adapted to the individual student.
Regular feedback and informal assessment ensure that progress is consistent and clearly understood.

F A Q s
Do you teach online or in person?
All lessons are conducted online, allowing flexible scheduling and consistent support regardless of location.
What curriculum do you follow?
Lessons follow the UK KS2 and KS3 curriculum, tailored to each student’s current level and learning needs.
How long is each lesson?
Sessions are typically 60 minutes.
What happens in the first session?
The first session (a 45-minute trial session) is structured to understand the student’s current level, identify strengths and areas for development, and outline a clear learning plan for future lessons.
Do you provide homework or additional work?
Yes, where appropriate. Short practice tasks may be given to reinforce concepts covered in lessons.
How does scheduling work?
Parents are first invited to complete a short enquiry form to share details about the student. I then review the information to ensure suitability. If appropriate, a free trial lesson is confirmed and available time slots are shared.
What happens after the trial lesson?
After the trial, I provide feedback on the student's current level along with recommendations for the next steps. The parents and I then discuss the best way to move forward together.
How does regular scheduling work?
If continuing lessons are recommended and mutually agreed upon, a consistent weekly schedule is fixed based on availability. Sessions are then booked in advance on an ongoing basis.
How soon can I expect progress?
Most students begin to show visible improvements in confidence and understanding within a few weeks of consistent learning. With ongoing support and practice, steady academic progress typically becomes clear within one term.
What is the difference between KS2 SATs and 11+ if both are based on the same KS2 curriculum?
KS2 SATs assess KS2 curriculum learning in English and Maths, while 11+ exams are more competitive entrance tests that go beyond KS2 level and require stronger application and exam technique.
At Austen & Arithmetic, lesson plans are tailored accordingly—reinforcing KS2 foundations for SATs and extending skills beyond KS2 level for 11+ success.
How much do lessons cost?
The trial lesson is free of charge.
Pay-as-you-go lessons start from £25 per hour. Monthly packages are available from £20 per hour (minimum 4 lessons per month). Rates vary depending on the student's year group, subject(s), and learning goals.
How are payments handled?
The trial lesson is free of charge. For students continuing with regular tuition, payment is discussed and made monthly in advance to reserve an ongoing lesson slot.
How do international payments work?
Payments are made in British Pounds (GBP). Once lessons are confirmed, you'll receive an invoice with a secure Wise payment link. Payments can be completed quickly via UK bank transfer or any other payment methods shown on the Wise checkout page.
How do we manage the timezone difference?
With over 3 years of global virtual experience, my schedule is fully optimised for the UK market. Lessons are scheduled during convenient UK after-school hours (late afternoons, evenings) and weekends (for reschedules, if necessary).
What happens if we need to cancel a lesson?
A flexible 24-hour cancellation policy is in place. If you notify me at least 24 hours in advance, your lesson will be rescheduled to a mutually convenient time at no additional charge.
